Oldyungmayn

Oldyungmayn’s identity moves through his work as a current - refracted through rhythm, bass pressure, and affective tone. As a Palestinian-Egyptian DJ and producer, now based in Berlin, he emerged from Dubai’s self-built underground - a place where creative spaces were scarce and dancefloors had to be invented from nothing. Out of this absence, he forged a sound both tactile and elusive: bass-heavy, rhythmically volatile, and charged with emotional dissonance. 

His DJ sets are kinetic and unpredictable, (un)folding techno’s gravity into percussive experiments, sudden ruptures, and euphoric flashes. He navigates tension and release with precision, channeling energy that feels both intimate and communal, inviting physicality and connection. “Heady, frenetic dynamism rooted in textural depth, combining harsh sonics with heavy club euphoria” is heard in Crack Mix 544 whilst BUTT Mixtape - Insane Gay Asylum Mix brings out his “handsome mixing (on) this bassy, freak-forward techno set.”

In productions, Oldyungmayn draws from a wide vocabulary: the serrated textures of industrial metal, the compressed drama of video game sound design, the rhythmic codes of diasporic bass music. These influences collide into something that feels at once personal and speculative - a soundworld where dislocation becomes propulsion. With recent releases on UMAY and Magdalena’s Apathy he continues to explore new terrains of rhythm, texture, and movement.

An alumni of the SHAPE+ platform for innovative music, Oldyungmayn continues to expand the edges of his sound. He’s appeared at spaces like CTM, Herrensauna, Säule, FIBER, Whole and Unsound’s Ephemera, transmitting his singular hybrid of density, joy, and controlled chaos. Currently developing his debut album and new collaborative projects, he remains committed to the same principles that started it all - a DIY ethos and insatiable curiosity.
